The Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, has donated cash, a laptop and a motorbike to a teacher in the constituency after she complained of going 14 months without receiving her salary.
The teacher, Madam Irene, had drawn public attention after speaking about her struggles following months of unpaid salary and what she described as unfair treatment by the Ghana Education Service.
Responding to her concerns, the MP said professionals who accept postings to serve in rural communities deserve support to enable them to perform their duties effectively.
“As a Member of Parliament, I’m not only there for my constituents. I’m also there for professionals like yourself who come to serve in my constituency and I want to be there for them so that they can serve our beloved country and constituency very well,” Mr Tampuli said.
The lawmaker said his intervention was aimed at easing the burden on the teacher while efforts continue to address the issues surrounding her salary.
The support package included an undisclosed amount of cash, a laptop and a motorbike.
Mr Tampuli noted that teachers and other professionals play a critical role in the development of the constituency and should be encouraged to remain committed to their work despite the challenges they face.
Madam Irene expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely support during a difficult period.
Her story has sparked discussions about salary delays affecting some public sector workers, particularly teachers posted to underserved communities, and the impact such challenges can have on service delivery.
