Under fire for his explosive bribery allegations against Parliament’s Appointments Committee, activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has distanced himself from claims that he is aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking before the Committee on Wednesday, January 29, Barker-Vormawor firmly rejected suggestions that he was a member of the NDC. “I am not an NDC member. I have not been an NDC member in the past,” he declared.
Instead, he revealed his allegiance to the Convention People’s Party (CPP), stating emphatically, “I am CPP, and I will continuously vote for the CPP.”
The activist’s comments come as he faces mounting political scrutiny following a cryptic social media post that suggested ministerial nominees were paying bribes to secure approval. The post read: “So all the monies the ministerial appointees are being asked to pay to the Appointments Committee just to get approved, are those ones not affected by ORAL? Strange Republic.”
The statement triggered widespread backlash, with critics accusing him of undermining Parliament’s integrity and raising questions about his political affiliations.
In an attempt to de-escalate tensions, the Chair of the Appointments Committee directed Barker-Vormawor to delete the post and issue a disclaimer.
His legal counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, also issued an apology, clarifying that the activist’s remarks were misinterpreted and not intended to directly accuse the Committee of corruption.
