Leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, known as Cheddar has indicated that he will run as an independent presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
Addressing the press earlier today, July 12, the leader of the New Force Movement disclosed that the Electoral Commission has frustrated his efforts to register the movement as a party, hence, he has decided to contest as an independent candidate and will continue to pursue the processes involved to fully register his movement as a political party after the elections.
Nana Kwame Bediako, however, bemoaned that the party only received the provisional certificate eight months after they applied on September 12, 2023 contrary to the seven days provided under section 8 subsection 2 of the Political Parties Act, 574 (2000).
“After eight months of putting this registration through, we received a provisional license, which makes it very difficult for us to risk another three months to receive the actual license”. Therefore, the New Force plan going forward is to run as an independent candidate for this year 2024”, he stated.
He however assured his supporters that he will ensure the movement gets registered as a party after the elections.
“I want to ensure Ghanaians for one thing, I will keep on proceeding for this party after this election but at this very point, the new force, ourselves, the team, and all the people that have been a part of this, believe that it’s a great idea for us to go ahead with the independent candidacy” he added.
Cheddar expressed optimism over the movement’s chances in the election saying they will “make history in the 2024 elections”. He said the movement will in the coming days unveil “The New Six”, a new generation of young and insightful leaders that will form a part of his movement for the 2024 elections.
