Governance, Leadership, and Policy Expert, Prof. Enoch Opoku Antwi, has defended the eviction of over 80 public servants from government apartments at Ridge, arguing that officials who are no longer in office should not remain in state housing.
Speaking on Prime News on ABC News GH, he dismissed concerns surrounding the eviction notice, stating, “It’s not an issue. If you are no more occupying such a position, then leave quietly.”
His comments come amid growing debate over the treatment of the affected individuals, some of whom have questioned the manner in which the eviction was carried out.
While some critics have suggested that the eviction process could have been handled more tactfully, Prof. Opoku Antwi maintained that the principle behind the move is justified.
“Even though it is a worry, you shouldn’t wait when you don’t qualify to be in that apartment,” he explained.
He further posed the question, “Are you saying the new person coming in is supposed to wait for three months or more?” emphasizing the need for a smooth transition to ensure that newly appointed officials have access to necessary accommodations.
His remarks have sparked discussions on how best to manage transitions within government institutions, particularly regarding state resources allocated to public officials.
While the issue has drawn mixed reactions, many agree that the eviction highlights the need for clear policies on official housing to prevent unnecessary conflicts when new administrations take over.
As public discourse continues, authorities are expected to provide clarity on future eviction processes to ensure fairness and efficiency.
