The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the Akwatia by-election, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, has indicated that he intends to further his education while keeping the possibility of a political comeback open.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Asumadu disclosed that he had already congratulated the winner of the poll, Bernard Bediako of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He stressed that any future decision to contest would depend on the will of his party and family.
“I can’t tell what the future holds, but if we get to that point and the party and my family want me to contest again, then I will. However, I will be furthering my education for now,” he stated.
The by-election, which took place on September 2, 2025, was occasioned by the passing of the incumbent NPP MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, in July. Bernard Bediako of the NDC emerged victorious with 18,199 votes (54.3%), defeating Solomon Asumadu of the NPP, who garnered 15,235 votes.
Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) placed third with 82 votes.
