Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has emphatically stated that he will never sit in the seat of the Minority Leader due to spiritual implications.
With the December general elections just three weeks away, Afenyo-Markin highlighted that occupying the Minority Leader’s chair would be symbolically and politically inappropriate for him, potentially signaling an unwanted shift to a minority status for his party.
Afenyo-Markin elaborated that taking such a seat would suggest leading his caucus into a minority position, an outcome he wishes to avoid both politically and spiritually. “I will never sit on that seat,” he affirmed, emphasizing the negative connotations associated with the gesture.
He further called on the Speaker of Parliament to ensure that Members of Parliament from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) return to their designated seats to maintain parliamentary order.
These comments come at a time of heightened political sensitivity and tension within Parliament, as the nation prepares for the December elections.
Afenyo-Markin’s remarks reflect the deep focus on symbolism and strategic positioning as the election date approaches.
