The government is set to make solar energy a key component of Ghana’s energy mix as part of its 24-hour economy initiative, Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour economy, Goosie Tanoh, has revealed.
Speaking at the 2025 Post-Budget Workshop in Parliament, he stated that integrating solar power into the national energy grid would help stabilize electricity tariffs for businesses operating around the clock.
According to Tanoh, the government plans to invest in solar infrastructure and either onboard private sector players or provide incentives for businesses to adopt solar energy.
Additionally, he disclosed that a National Employment Trust would be established to regulate employment agencies in line with international standards.
As part of the 24-hour economy policy, the government also intends to amend the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Act to legislate the purchase of locally made goods, supporting domestic manufacturing and economic transformation.
He emphasized that while the policy will be largely private sector-driven, the government will seek minimal funding in the mid-year budget review to facilitate its implementation.
