Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, MP for Asawase and Minister-designate for the Interior, has vowed to harness technology to trace firearm ownership and enhance public safety.
Speaking during his vetting in Parliament, Muntaka announced plans to introduce an amnesty program for citizens possessing unregistered firearms, allowing them to surrender the weapons to authorities without fear of prosecution.
“I will engage with stakeholders to implement technological solutions that trace firearm ownership effectively.” Muntaka explained.
He also added that he would engage stakeholders to implement an amnesty program, providing an opportunity for individuals with unregistered firearms to surrender them. This he explained will help reduce the huge number of unregistered fire arms in the system.
A seasoned politician with over two decades of experience, Muntaka has represented the Asawase constituency since 2005 and previously served as Minister for Youth and Sports under President John Atta Mills.
If approved, he will oversee critical agencies like the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.
Muntaka’s vision for the Ministry includes streamlining operations, tackling emerging security threats, and ensuring peace and stability in Ghana.
