Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has spoken candidly about the intense expectations that come with wearing the national jersey, describing the scrutiny from fans as constant and demanding.

The 26-year-old forward explained that playing for the Ghana national football team leaves little room for error, with supporters expecting immediate results in every moment on the pitch.

“In Ghana the expectation is, every ball I touch has to be in the back of the net. If it’s not, you’re crap. That’s how they are,” he said in an interview with All Out Football.

His remarks reflect the high-pressure environment surrounding the Black Stars, where football is deeply embedded in national culture and every performance is closely judged.

Semenyo, who made his debut in 2022, has gradually established himself as a regular figure in Ghana’s attacking setup. In 34 appearances, he has scored three goals, including a crucial late strike against Angola national football team during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on March 23, 2023. That goal, scored in stoppage time, marked a defining moment in his early international career.

Looking ahead, the forward is expected to play a significant role as Ghana builds towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.

Despite the pressure, Semenyo’s comments underline the passion that fuels the expectations. In Ghana, football goes beyond sport—it is a powerful symbol of national pride, with millions of fans placing their hopes on the players who represent the country on the global stage.
