Executive Director of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwah, has called on the government to conduct thorough investigations into illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, without political interference.
Her appeal follows the Attorney-General’s directive to EOCO to probe suspected cases involving figures such as Joseph Albert Quarm.
It also comes amid recent confirmation from Energy Minister John Jinapor regarding a task force auditing containers linked to the energy sector.
Awula Serwah in an interview on ‘ABC News GH’s ‘ABC In The Morning’ emphasized that while such initiatives are steps in the right direction, they risk losing credibility if politically motivated.
She maintains that a fair, unbiased process is critical to restoring public trust and effectively tackling the galamsey menace.
