The Deputy Minority Leader, Mr. James Klutse, has voiced serious concerns over the high probability of employees not returning after being granted study leave, particularly within the Health Ministry.
“When you grant people on study leave, the probability of not returning is very high. It is a big challenge, especially in the Health Ministry,” Chair of the sitting, Mr. Klutse stated during the Public Accounts Committee sitting on Friday, August 2nd, 2024.
Mr. Klutse’s comments were made in response to submissions by the Government of the Local Service.
The Deputy Minority Leader emphasized the urgent need for effective strategies to address this retention problem.
His concerns reflect a broader challenge faced by public services, where investment in employee development does not always translate into long-term service benefits.
The discussion during the committee session underscored the complexities of balancing professional development opportunities with workforce stability.
