Tempers erupted in Parliament today as Works and Housing Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah defended his government against accusations of insincerity during a heated Assurance Committee session.
Chairman Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa challenged the government’s handling of the Akosombo Dam spillage, accusing it of neglecting the displaced victims.
Ablakwa questioned why the Ministry had not prioritized the suffering of the people affected, suggesting the government’s response had been slow and inadequate.
However, Oppong Nkrumah fiercely rejected the allegations, accusing Ablakwa of unfairly politicizing the issue.
He pointed out that Ablakwa had previously misrepresented military movements in the Volta Region, creating a false impression that the government had withdrawn support.
The Housing Minister stood firm, asserting that his Ministry had been transparent and committed to alleviating the distress caused by the disaster.
As tensions escalated, Ablakwa pushed back, asserting his authority as Committee Chairman and accusing Oppong Nkrumah of deflecting from the real issue.
