Deputy Minority Leader and Asokwa Member of Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, has rejected allegations that she received or discussed a GH¢70,000 payment in connection with the parliamentary vetting of ministerial nominees.

The MP described a purported memorandum linking her to the alleged payment as fabricated, insisting that she had no knowledge of the document or any arrangement involving money during the vetting process.

Speaking on Citi FM on Friday, September 4, Mrs Appiagyei said the alleged memo came as a surprise to her and that she had not paid much attention to the controversy because she was attending a funeral.

“I don’t know anything about the memo. It was absolutely news to me. I didn’t know what was happening but because of the funeral, I didn’t pay much attention to it.”

A memorandum dated September 2, 2026, and purportedly addressed to Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has been circulating and allegedly links Mrs Appiagyei to a GH¢70,000 allocation related to the work of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The Asokwa MP, however, denied having any discussions with her party leadership or other individuals regarding money for the vetting of ministerial nominees.

“No. What I am telling you, actually, it’s fake news. So that is what it is.”

She also questioned the circumstances surrounding the document, saying she found the purported memo difficult to understand and doubting its authenticity.

“To be honest with you, I found it to be totally strange and something that I could not fathom where it should be coming from.”

Mrs Appiagyei further maintained that she did not receive any money during the vetting exercise, explaining that members of the committee were occupied with their official responsibilities.

She said the committee’s activities on the day included a press conference and discussions on matters of principle, leaving little opportunity for any such transaction.

“We started off in the morning with the press conference. We couldn’t even find the time to do anything. We were only serious mentioning our issues on a matter of principle,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced a preliminary investigation into the alleged GH¢70,000 payment reportedly offered to Mrs Appiagyei in connection with the vetting of ministerial and Supreme Court nominees.

The investigation follows the circulation of the purported memorandum and the allegations linking the Asokwa MP to the reported payment.

Mrs Appiagyei’s denial comes as the controversy over the document and the alleged transaction continues to draw attention.
