Retired Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba has expressed support for Klottey Korle Member of Parliament, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, for a ministerial appointment, describing her as a leader with integrity, dedication and the qualities needed for national service.
Speaking at the D.F. Annan Memorial Lecture held in Parliament, Justice Atuguba praised the lawmaker’s conduct and commitment to public service, saying she represents the kind of political leadership Ghana should aspire to have.
He said although he has never personally met or spoken with Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, he has followed her activities and believes her character sets her apart.
“Somebody like Zanetor Rawlings, she’s not a politician; she’s a woman of the people. I’ve been following her activities. I don’t know, I’ve never spoken to her, never met her, but I’m convinced that that’s the kind of politician people should aspire to be,” he said.
Justice Atuguba expressed surprise that the Klottey Korle MP had not yet been appointed a minister, given what he described as her strong leadership qualities and commitment to public service.
“Until now, and that’s why I don’t get involved in politics, I don’t know why she’s not yet a minister. I hope by saying that, I’ve not destroyed her chances,” he stated.
The retired judge also dismissed the idea that Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings should only be considered for a deputy ministerial role, arguing that she has the capacity to occupy a more senior position.
“From social media, sometimes they even announce that she can be deputy [minister] of health. I say, oh, she could even be the substantive…why not? Why not?”
Justice Atuguba further highlighted the MP’s personal attributes, describing her as a woman of principle, dedication and integrity, and suggested that such qualities deserve recognition at the national level.
“Such a woman of principle, of dedication, of integrity, why not?” he added.
