Asante Kotoko have parted ways with Head Coach Abdul Karim Zito ahead of their super clash against Hearts of Oak, bringing an end to his tenure less than a year after his appointment.
The decision comes in the wake of Kotoko’s Round of 16 defeat to Aduana FC, a result that compounded the club’s recent struggles. The Porcupine Warriors have managed only one victory in their last five matches, sparking growing concern among supporters and club hierarchy.
At the time of his resignation, Kotoko sit fifth on the Ghana Premier League table, trailing leaders Medeama SC by eight points as the title race intensifies.
The club officially confirmed Zito’s resignation through a statement released on its social media platforms, noting that the decision takes immediate effect.
Management stated that it had accepted the resignation, expressed gratitude for his contribution to the club, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Zito was appointed in July last year and leaves with a notable achievement, having guided Kotoko to success in the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup during his time in charge.
With the coaching position now vacant, Asante Kotoko are expected to name a substantive Head Coach in the coming days. In the interim, Prince Owusu has been tasked with taking charge of the team as they look forward to the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
