Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has urged his supporters to remain calm following a U.S. court ruling that ordered him to pay $18 million in damages to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas for defamatory remarks.
Addressing his supporters at his campaign office in Shiashie upon his return to Ghana on March 27, Agyapong expressed gratitude for their unwavering support and assured them that he would formally address the issue at the appropriate time.
“I want to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you for the wonderful welcome you have given me and my wife. This will inspire me to continue doing what I do—speaking for the voiceless,” he said.
Despite the court’s decision, Agyapong remained defiant, stating that his experiences had strengthened his resolve to fight for justice and truth.
“Nobody should worry. Anyone who speaks the truth and stands for the voiceless will face challenges. But through this ordeal, I have become a better person, and I will continue to fight and defend the truth,” he assured his supporters.
Agyapong, known for his outspoken nature, reiterated his commitment to his advocacy, vowing not to be discouraged by legal battles.
“We should all stay calm. Nobody should worry because anyone who decides to speak the truth and fight for the voiceless will go through this ordeal,” he added.
His remarks come in the wake of a U.S. court ruling that found him liable for defamatory statements against Anas, leading to the multi-million-dollar judgment. While the ruling has sparked reactions across political and media circles, Agyapong has called for calm, promising to address the matter in detail at the right time.
