A Kumasi court has remanded Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for the second time in connection with the tragic death of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani, who is set to be buried on Saturday, April 5.
At his latest court appearance on March 17, 2025, prosecutors disclosed that the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office for advice, leading the court to grant the prosecution’s request to keep Tuffour in custody while awaiting further legal directives. The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2025.

Joana’s tragic death has left the KNUST community in mourning, as she was remembered as a kind and promising young woman. Her lifeless body was discovered on February 27, 2025, behind the university’s Central Laboratory.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, believed to be Tuffour, allegedly strangling her after a heated argument. Following his arrest, he was first remanded on February 28, 2025.
Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served as the case continues to unfold.
