Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation Designate, has pledged to revamp Ghana’s sports infrastructure by improving maintenance culture and investing in new facilities.
This commitment aims to address the country’s long-standing challenges in maintaining key sporting venues, such as the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and the Cape Coast Stadium.
During his vetting, Adams emphasized the importance of a strong maintenance culture, stressing that sports facilities should not be left to deteriorate due to neglect.
He stated, “We are going to improve upon our maintenance culture. We are not going to let the facilities rot. We will ensure that our limited resources are used to maintain the various facilities and build new ones too.”
The lack of proper maintenance has led to structural deterioration, negatively impacting athlete performance and limiting Ghana’s ability to host international tournaments. Adams’ commitment to proper facility management is expected to bring structured policies for regular maintenance, ensuring that existing and newly constructed facilities remain in top condition for local and international competitions.
