The Public Relations Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mr. Mustapha Salifu, has addressed concerns surrounding the temporary closure of the hospital’s mortuary, emphasizing that the ongoing refurbishment is essential for enhancing service delivery and maintaining public health standards.
In an exclusive interview with ABCNewsgh, Mr. Salifu reassured the public that the refurbishment is a necessary step to upgrade the facility.
He also stated that if the hospital’s press release does not reach the affected families, management will personally contact them to arrange for the collection of their deceased loved ones.
This announcement follows a statement issued on February 3, 2025, by the hospital’s management, notifying the public of the temporary suspension of its cold room facilities.
The statement clarified that Korle Bu “would be unable to accept fresh bodies or Brought-in-Dead (BID) cases during this period,” except for cases that originate within the hospital.
The refurbishment is expected to be completed within six weeks. However, the sudden closure has raised concerns among bereaved families who may struggle to make alternative arrangements.
