Kwaku Boateng, the Chairman of the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana, has officially announced his bid to challenge the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidacy in the Awutu Senya East constituency. Boateng is confident in his campaign, boldly stating that he anticipates securing a 90% victory in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Despite it being Boateng’s first attempt at the position, he is resolute in his pursuit of the NPP’s ticket for the 2024 general elections. Boateng’s campaign strategy revolves around a focus on talent and youth development, aiming to tap into the potential of the constituency’s youth.
He contends that the incumbent MP, Hawa Koomson, running for the fourth time, faces the risk of losing the seat to the opposition National Democratic Congress due to a perceived decline in her popularity.
Having submitted his nomination forms earlier in the week, Boateng is committed to bringing about positive change in the constituency for the collective benefit of its residents.
In contrast, Mavis Hawa Koomson, the incumbent MP, has also submitted her nominations and is urging delegates to overwhelmingly endorse her on January 27, 2024. She emphasizes her potential to break the “eight-year cycle” and positions herself as the best candidate to represent the NPP in the constituency.
During a visit to the Odukpong Ofaakor Palace to seek permission and blessings from traditional authorities for his campaign, Boateng expressed optimism for victory. The traditional authorities have called for a respectful campaign without resorting to insults, and the NPP party leadership has assured all candidates of an equal playing field during the contest.
