Kwame Ntow Amoah, a senior management staff of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has been appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the national oil company.
His appointment follows the reassignment of Edward Abambire Bawa, the former CEO, to Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) as Managing Director and Group CEO.
With a wealth of experience in the energy sector, Mr. Amoah has held key leadership roles, including Deputy Chief Executive at GNPC and Advisor to the Minister of Energy/Director of Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy.
His leadership comes at a crucial time for GNPC as it seeks to strengthen its position in the global oil and gas industry.
Mr. Amoah brings extensive expertise in petroleum sector governance, having played a significant role in securing investments and negotiating international energy deals.
He was instrumental in Ghana’s victory in the 2017 Maritime Boundary Case, which safeguarded the country’s petroleum resources.
His efforts have also led to securing approximately $7 billion in investment for the Sankofa Oil and Gas Development Project, supported by a $700 million partial risk guarantee from the World Bank.
As an experienced industry leader, he has chaired and served on various national and international boards, shaping policies that drive growth in Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
Industry experts have commended Mr. Amoah’s appointment, citing his vast experience and strategic approach to advancing the corporation’s interests.
Many believe his leadership will enhance GNPC’s role in promoting local content and increasing Ghanaian participation in the petroleum industry.
