Asante Kotoko has officially named Kwasi Appiah as its new Head of Sporting Affairs, marking a key development in the club’s ongoing restructuring process.
Appiah, who is also the head coach of the Sudanese national football team, takes over from the Interim Management Committee (IMC) where he previously served as the Technical Director.
His appointment follows the club’s recent reshuffle, which saw Malik Jabir, a legendary figure at Kotoko, named the new Technical Director.
The restructure also sees Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was part of the IMC, reassigned to focus solely on his role as the club’s head coach.
Under the new structure, both Jabir and Ogum will report directly to Appiah, streamlining the club’s management hierarchy.
Asante Kotoko shared the news on Twitter on November 28, 2024, with an image outlining the new sporting setup.
Appiah’s appointment comes on the heels of his impressive achievement with the Sudan national team, where he led them to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a notable victory over Ghana.
Despite Sudan’s challenging circumstances, including a civil war that forced the team to play home matches abroad, Appiah’s leadership was instrumental in their success.
He is also set to resume his position as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association after a suspension linked to the Ghana-Sudan clash was recently lifted.
Domestically, Asante Kotoko has begun to turn their fortunes around after ending a four-game winless streak with a victory over Aduana Stars.
The team is now preparing for their upcoming match in the MTN FA Cup Round of 64 against Future Stars at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on December 1, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium.
