The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has strongly refuted allegations made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, that the government is obligated to pay GHS 5,383,000.00 to the Bulgarian Embassy for the demolition of its building in 2017.
In a statement dated July 18, 2024, the Ministry dismissed these claims as “false and baseless,” clarifying that the land in question was never granted to the embassy by the government and that the demolition was not carried out by government authorities.
The Ministry emphasized that the government only intervened because a diplomatic mission was involved.
According to the Ministry, the valuation of the unexpired term by the Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission stands at GHS 5,383,000.00, but this amount is to be paid by Mr. Jojo Hagan, not the government.
The Ministry accused Ablakwa of deliberately misleading the public to cause disaffection for the government, noting that the facts of the matter are well-established and accessible.
The embassy, located at Kakramadu Road, Plot No. 10, East Cantonments in Accra, was demolished by a private developer.
