Hajia Amina Adam, Widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, has formally announced her intention to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the constituency.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Adam explained that her decision to enter the race was influenced by sustained appeals from constituents, party grassroots members and traditional authorities, urging her to continue the legacy of service established by her late husband.
She described the late Mahama Naser Toure as a devoted public servant who represented the Ayawaso East Constituency with commitment and distinction, noting that she took time to reflect on the calls from community leaders before making her decision.
According to her, consultations with elders, party faithful and opinion leaders played a critical role in shaping her resolve to serve the constituency despite the personal loss she continues to endure.
“There has been a clarion call from many quarters in my constituency and beyond for me to step into the shoes of my late husband. After deep reflection and consultations, particularly with elders and grassroots members, I have accepted the call to serve my people,” the statement said.
Hajia Adam acknowledged that her decision comes at a difficult moment marked by grief but said the encouragement she has received from chiefs, imams, youth leaders and other influential figures in the constituency has strengthened her resolve.
She further assured supporters that she would remain committed to serving the people faithfully if given the mandate.
“I want to assure them that I will not disappoint them,” she added.
As preparations for the by-election gather pace, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released guidelines for the conduct of its parliamentary primary in the constituency, ahead of the March 3 poll in the Greater Accra Region.
