Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has been released eight days after his arrest on September 3, 2025, over allegations of financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.
His release came on Thursday, September 11, 2025, following days in custody.
Speaking to journalists after regaining his freedom, Akpaloo described his arrest and detention as politically motivated.
“They [EOCO] say they are conducting investigations. But it is politics as usual. My arrest and detention were due to my recent utterances about the government,” he said.
Though Akpaloo was granted police bail earlier with conditions, including a GH¢10 million bond with two sureties to be justified, he remained in custody until Thursday after being unable to immediately meet the bail requirements.
