The LPG Marketing Companies Association of Ghana has denied claims that it opposes the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) proposed by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
This response comes after remarks by Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the CEO of the NPA, suggesting that the association was against the CRM.
In a statement released on Sunday, July 21, the association clarified, “The assertion that we oppose the CRM is categorically false. We have engaged in numerous discussions with the NPA and have mutually agreed that both the refilling and CRM systems must operate side by side.”
The association emphasized that their advertisements focus on promoting LPG usage for environmental protection and supporting local businesses, not opposing the CRM.
The association also highlighted that its proposal to install cages at all LPG stations to aid in the distribution of CRM cylinders was rejected by the NPA.
They expressed disappointment in Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s characterization of their stance, describing it as “ironic and disingenuous.” The statement urged the NPA CEO to refrain from making divisive remarks and called for the NPA to maintain its role as a neutral regulator.
The association criticized the use of taxpayer funds to support foreign and semi-foreign entities over indigenous businesses, labeling it as “unjust, unnationalistic and highly unacceptable.”
Reiterating their position, the association affirmed that both refill and CRM systems should coexist peacefully.
