President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edmond Kombat as the new Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), a move aimed at breathing new life into the refinery amidst years of operational and financial turmoil.
The appointment of Kombat, a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of the energy and finance sectors, is expected to mark the beginning of a turnaround for TOR, once a cornerstone of Ghana’s industrial framework but now plagued by inefficiencies.
Kombat’s mandate includes restructuring and modernizing TOR’s operations, as well as pursuing private-sector partnerships to secure the capital and technical expertise needed to restore the refinery to its former glory.
About Edmond Kombat
Edmond Kombat is a distinguished lawyer, entrepreneur, and Pan-Africanist with an impressive resume spanning multiple industries. He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Ghana, obtained an LL.B from GIMPA Faculty of Law, and completed his BL and QCL qualifications at the Ghana School of Law. Additionally, he holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard University, showcasing a strong commitment to academic and professional excellence.
His career includes roles as a Financial Analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London, an Energy Analyst at TOR, and a Business and Energy Analyst at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST).
At Harvard Kennedy School, Kombat honed his analytical skills as a Research Assistant at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.
As an entrepreneur, Kombat is the Founder and Chairman of Edkom Group of Companies, a conglomerate spanning agribusiness, energy, real estate, and precious minerals. His leadership in the energy sector extends to his role as Co-Founder and Director of Research and Finance at the Institute for Energy Security (IES), where he has championed energy research and policy advocacy.
