President John Dramani Mahama has officially dissolved the National Cathedral Secretariat effective May 1, 2025, following serious revelations of financial mismanagement.
The Secretariat, previously operating under the Presidency, was at the center of a damning audit by Deloitte and Touche that exposed procurement breaches, unsupported expenditures, and widespread irregularities between 2021 and 2023.
At a press conference held at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 18, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, confirmed the dissolution and announced that the Attorney-General is currently taking legal steps to terminate existing contracts related to the controversial project.
“The goal is to prevent further costs and losses to the state,” Kwakye-Ofosu noted.
The Deloitte audit revealed unaccounted payments, overlapping contractual roles, and major procurement violations. Despite construction halting years ago, the project has already consumed an estimated $97 million in public funds.
