President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major expansion of his administration’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme, revealing an additional GHS30 billion injection set for 2026.
Speaking at the official launch of the Big Push road project in Afienya in Accra on Tuesday, September 16, the President said the new funding will extend the programme beyond core infrastructure to include health, education, agriculture, agribusiness, and sports.
He explained that GHS13.9 billion allocated for the Big Push this year by the Finance Ministry will roll over into 2026 due to ongoing procurement processes.
“Next year, we are going to add GHS30 billion to the GHS14 billion. That is why I say payment will not be a problem,” President Mahama said, reassuring Ghanaians that financing will not constrain the implementation of the initiative.
Highlighting the rationale for broadening the scope, the President stressed the expanded Big Push will contribute to infrastructure and human development.
“We are adding other sectors to the Big Push, and this includes the health sector, the education sector, the agriculture sector and agribusiness, and it also includes the sports sector,” he emphasised, noting that the investments aim to accelerate national growth, create jobs, and improve quality of life.
