President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Fiscal Council, in line with provisions under the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended.
The announcement, dated Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and issued by the Presidency Communications Office, outlines the nominees selected to help strengthen fiscal discipline and oversight in the country’s public financial management system.

According to the statement, Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah has been nominated as Chairperson of the Council. Other nominees include Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming, representing academia, and Leslie Dwight Mensah, representing a research think tank.
The remaining nominees are I. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry responsible for Finance, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.
The Fiscal Council is expected to play a critical role in promoting fiscal prudence, enhancing financial oversight, and guiding sound decision-making in public financial management.
