President John Dramani Mahama has regained full control of his X (formerly Twitter) account after hackers hijacked it on Monday, March 17, 2025, to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.
In a post on Tuesday, March 18, Mr. Mahama confirmed that his team had worked closely with X’s support team to restore access.
“My team has restored my account, working with the X support team. Thank you for your enquiries and offers to assist,” he wrote.
The breach saw hackers use the account to promote “Solana Africa,” a cryptocurrency scam that falsely claimed to be Mr. Mahama’s initiative for cross-border payments in Africa.
The project quickly collapsed, resembling a “rug pull” scheme that left unsuspecting investors with financial losses.
Following the attack, Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) assured the public that investigations were underway in collaboration with X’s security team to track the perpetrators and prevent future incidents.
The breach has sparked concerns about the vulnerability of social media accounts belonging to high-profile individuals amid rising cyber threats.
