President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to investigate the controversial National Cathedral project, signaling a new era of transparency and accountability under his administration.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Sunday, January 12, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the need for a thorough review of the project.
“We will soon activate an investigation into the National Cathedral project,” he declared, hinting that the site of the cathedral might be reconsidered as part of a comprehensive reform.
President Mahama proposed a collaborative approach to ensure the project achieves its objectives within a reasonable budget. “I believe that we can reach a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project, and together we can raise the funding for it,” he stated.
“This reconsideration might even include changing the current site that was chosen for the project.”
The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring justice, vowing to make transparency a hallmark of his leadership. “We will fight corruption relentlessly,” Mahama asserted.
Reflecting on his electoral victory, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the clergy and the Ghanaian people, promising to serve as a unifying leader.
“This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our sight,” he said, calling for unity and collective effort in nation-building.
