President John Dramani Mahama, the African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions, will host a landmark high-level event on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly to launch The Accra Reset: Reimagining Global Governance for Health and Development.
The initiative is set to introduce a bold framework aimed at reshaping the global governance system to address the challenges of the post-SDG era.
According to a statement from the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the event will bring together Heads of State, multilateral leaders, philanthropic organisations, business innovators, and civil society from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and global institutions.
A key announcement will be the creation of a Global Presidential Council, a pioneering body of Heads of State and Government, which will spearhead The Accra Reset’s agenda.
The Council will further establish a High-Level Advisory Panel of experts in health, finance, innovation, and business to drive new models of cooperation with both political commitment and intellectual rigour.
The launch builds on the August 2025 Africa Health Sovereignty Summit in Accra and comes at a time when the UN’s 2023 review found fewer than half of the 169 SDG targets on track. With global health, inequality, and fiscal resilience under strain, The Accra Reset insists that “development-as-usual” is no longer viable.
