Michael Boadi, a governance expert at the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), has called on Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to exhibit an active and vibrant leadership style in her role.
Speaking on ABC News on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Boadi addressed debates surrounding the comparison of President John Mahama’s inauguration to previous ones, describing such comparisons as unnecessary.
“Yes, it was colorful and timely, but the comparison is needless,” he stated, urging Ghanaians to focus on governance outcomes rather than ceremonies.
Boadi emphasized the importance of Vice President Opoku-Agyemang’s contributions, highlighting her potential to rally for transformative change.
“She has demonstrated that she is not laid back and is a goal-getter. On that level, I believe we must expect more from her,” he remarked.
He encouraged her to channel her influence into empowering women in leadership and public service, fostering gender equality, and proving that women can excel in roles traditionally dominated by men.
The governance expert further noted the need for the Vice President to match or even surpass the vibrancy displayed by her predecessor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in his role as Vice President.
“I pray she will be able to rally women into various positions, push them to excel, and make a statement that what men can do in public office, women can do just as well or even better,” Boadi added.
His comments come as Ghanaians look to the new administration to deliver on promises of unity, progress, and inclusive leadership.
