Security Analyst Dr. Adam Bonaa has expressed confidence in the ability of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to handle the recent invasion at Metro TV’s premises in Accra.
Speaking on ABC Prime on November 27, Dr. Bonaa reassured the public that the IGP’s leadership would prevent the incident from affecting the relationship between the police and the media.
“I think the IGP is capable of dealing with this,” he said, stressing that the invasion was likely a display of power rather than an attack on the press.
The incident occurred on the morning of November 27, 2024, when a group of men, some of whom appeared to be in police uniforms, stormed Metro TV’s offices while officers assisted a court bailiff in executing a court order.
The invasion led to a temporary disruption of live programming, as Morning Show host Dr. Randy Abbey confronted the intruders on-air.
The situation escalated into a heated exchange, causing concern among staff and viewers alike. Police are currently investigating the incident to determine if the actions of the intruders were in accordance with the court order.
In related news, Dr. Dampare, the IGP, has launched a new initiative aimed at tackling electoral breaches ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The National Election Security Taskforce has introduced the Informant Reward System, which will reward individuals who report electoral irregularities.
Dr. Dampare announced that informants could receive cash rewards between GHS 1,000 to GHS 20,000, further bolstering efforts to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
