Mfantsipim School has brought the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) trophy back to their campus, winning the 2024 championship by a single point in a heart-pounding final.

The Botwe Boys, as they’re known, defeated long-time rivals St. Augustine’s College (Augusco) in a narrow and dramatic finish, securing victory with 47 points to Augusco’s 46, while Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco) trailed with 32 points.

Mfantsipim’s journey to the top was anything but easy.

They first took down heavyweights Prempeh College in the quarter-finals, then went on to defeat six-time champions Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec) in the semi-finals, both matches going down to a tiebreaker.

Facing off against past champions Augusco and seasoned finalists Ketasco in the grand finale, Mfantsipim put everything on the line for a shot at the coveted title.

The final showdown was intense from the start. Mfantsipim and Augusco went neck-and-neck, tying in the first round with 24 points each, while Ketasco struggled to keep up.

Augusco pulled ahead in the second and third rounds, amassing 46 points by the fourth round, while Mfantsipim followed closely with 44.

Ketasco, though behind, kept fighting to secure their place in the top three, holding a steady 26 points as they headed into the final round.

As the tension in the auditorium reached its peak, the final riddle question became the game-changer.

Ketasco’s team answered correctly, which ultimately allowed Mfantsipim to pull ahead by the slimmest of margins.

The Botwe Boys emerged victorious, recording their third NSMQ title and cementing their place in quiz history.
