The 2nd Infantry Battalion in the Western Region is grappling with several infrastructure challenges, including poor barracks roads, dysfunctional sewerage systems, and land encroachment, according to its Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. ENN Osae.
Speaking during a briefing with the Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, the Commanding Officer highlighted that despite the unit’s rich history and contributions to national security, its facilities remain in poor condition.
“Our barracks roads are in a deplorable state, our sewerage system is not functioning properly, and we are also facing issues with encroachment on our lands,” he stated.
He further mentioned an ongoing accommodation project being supported through a Chinese grant, which is expected to alleviate some of the unit’s housing problems.
However, he noted that more needs to be done to ensure that personnel have a conducive working and living environment.
In response, Minister Nelson acknowledged the concerns and assured the battalion of his commitment to addressing the challenges.
He emphasized the importance of providing adequate infrastructure and support to security forces, especially those tasked with critical national duties like combating illegal mining.
