Security analyst, Adib Saani has expressed concerns over the reliance on military deployment and curfews as tools to manage conflicts.
In relation to recent happenings in the Bawku locality, he argued that such measures are short-term fixes and have proven to be ineffective as they fail to address the underlying social, political, and economic issues fueling unrest.
Speaking on ABC IN THE MORNING, he advocated for a more holistic approach to resolve the current situation in the area.
Zebilla MP, Cletus Avoka also bemoaned that the closing of courts in the Upper East region will deny justice for persons awaiting trial.
His comment also follows the Chief Justice’s closure of about seven courts concerning the conflict in Bawku. He added that the Bawku Circuit and District courts have been closed for four years.
The Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka, has also bemoaned that recurring curfews on Bawku and its environs has taken a great toll on the life of residents in the area.
His comment follows another 12-hour curfew that has been imposed on the Bawku enclave following resurgence in violent conflict that killed at least 15 persons.
Cletus Avoka further noted that the area has been under several curfews in the last four years with impositions such as a ban on wearing of traditional dresses and the use of motorcycles which serves as a major means of transport.
He said this on ABC in the morning during the discussion of the escalation of the conflict in Bawku.
