The Minority in Parliament has appealed directly to President John Dramani Mahama to take swift and concrete measures to restore peace in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole Districts to ensure the safe and dignified return of thousands of displaced Ghanaians.
In a statement signed by Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Deputy Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Minority emphasized that the situation is worsened by both the deteriorating conditions in refugee camps and the misrepresentations in the Foreign Minister’s report, which they say could mislead the people of Ghana.
The statement warned that the longer the displacement persists, the deeper mistrust will grow among affected populations, making reintegration more difficult.
The Minority therefore urged urgent action from the Presidency, highlighting the need for effective mediation, humanitarian support, and diplomatic engagement to facilitate the refugees’ safe return.
