The Minority in Parliament has called on the government to realign the 2025 budget with its manifesto commitments and redirect funds to support the economic sector.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and Minority spokesperson on the economy, criticized the ruling party for failing to reflect its campaign promises in the budget.
According to him, out of approximately 68 economic pledges in the manifesto, only 25—about 30%—have been addressed.
In an interview with ABC News GH, he stressed that the government “should try and build a bridge of coherence between the manifesto and the policy they brought. It’s like they’ve already abandoned their manifesto.”
He further urged the government to reallocate funds from the Office of Government Machinery to the economic sector to ensure more impactful investments.
Despite these concerns, Oppong Nkrumah assured that the Minority will still support the 2025 budget, even if the necessary amendments are not made.
He emphasized that the opposition is not seeking to obstruct government business but believes that aligning the budget with the manifesto would make it more beneficial.
“Whether they correct it or not, we will support it. We are not an obstructive minority to be hindering their work. But it will be better if they make the corrections so that what we are supporting is good,” he stated.
