The Minority in Parliament is calling for urgent intervention from the police following the reported disappearance of seven crucial biometric devices, raising fears of potential disruptions to the upcoming December elections.
The missing devices, used for the registration and verification of voters by the Electoral Commission, have prompted concerns among lawmakers about the integrity of the electoral process.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Parliament today, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, emphasized the need for swift action to address the situation.
“The Electoral Commission confirms that seven of the biometric devices are indeed missing. I urge the CID and the Ghana Police Service to immediately issue a statement giving us the details of their investigation so far,” stated Dr. Forson during the press conference.
“I am concerned and worried because those devices in the hands of an unknown person can compromise the future elections that Ghana will have.
“Who knows whether this is in the hands of a political party? And who knows what that political party is doing with it? I am disturbed.”
The biometric devices, crucial tools for ensuring the accuracy and transparency of voter registration, were scheduled for use in the Electoral Commission’s upcoming limited voter registration exercise. Their sudden disappearance has raised eyebrows and prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
