The Sekondi community is reeling in shock as a 35-year-old woman, Mena Efua, is alleged to have sold her two-week-old baby for a mere GHC300.
According to her sister, Maame Esi, who helped with the delivery just last Monday, the newborn mysteriously vanished days after its birth.
“I assisted her to deliver last week at home, and after a week, the baby is nowhere to be found,” Maame Esi tearfully recounted. Upon confronting Mena, the mother allegedly admitted to selling the child, though she has refused to reveal the buyer’s identity.
Further troubling details have since emerged, suggesting that a nurse may have been involved in the tragic transaction. Maame Esi shared that her sister initially claimed the baby was handed over to a nurse, who promised to find a buyer.
However, Mena has remained silent on the nurse’s identity, leaving the family in anguish. “She is now telling us the baby is in Accra but can’t lead us to the exact place. We are desperate for help to find the baby,” Maame Esi added.
The incident was reported to the Sekondi Police and later referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
Police investigations have commenced, but the baby’s whereabouts remain unknown, leaving the family and the entire community in a state of despair.
