The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has made an urgent appeal to the government, corporate institutions, and the general public to provide immediate relief to victims of the devastating floods that have affected Samreboi and surrounding communities in the Wassa area of the Western Region.
According to the MP, relentless rainfall has triggered widespread flooding across the Amenfi West, Amenfi Central, and Amenfi East districts, leaving more than 1,500 households displaced and causing extensive damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.
The disaster has rendered several roads impassable, disrupted economic activities, and left many families without access to shelter, food, and other basic necessities.
Reports indicate that some residents have been forced to sleep in the open, while others continue to struggle with the loss of property and livelihoods.
Hon. Gyan Cudjoe expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation and called for swift intervention to prevent further suffering among affected residents.
She also commended Dr. Richard Kweku Duah Nsenkyire, Managing Director of Samartex Timber and Plywood Company, for his support and leadership during the crisis, describing his contribution as a beacon of hope for many affected families.
The MP appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and relevant government ministries and agencies to urgently deploy resources to the affected communities.
She called for immediate measures including the provision of food, medical supplies, temporary shelters, and the rehabilitation of damaged roads to facilitate access to isolated communities. “This is not just Samreboi’s fight; it is Ghana’s fight,” Hon. Gyan Cudjoe stated, urging all Ghanaians to demonstrate solidarity with victims of the disaster.
Local authorities and emergency responders continue to assess the extent of the damage as affected communities await additional relief and recovery support.
