MTN Ghana has announced plans to invest US$1.1 billion over the next three years to expand network capacity, improve service quality and extend digital connectivity to underserved communities across the country.
The investment includes approximately US$380 million for 2026, with the deployment of 500 new cell sites nationwide this year as the telecommunications company seeks to strengthen network coverage and resilience.
General Manager of MTN Ghana, David Gyimah Boadi, announced this during the company’s Regional Media and Stakeholder Engagement in Koforidua on Monday, October 26, 2026, as part of activities marking its 30th anniversary.

Celebrated under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,” the anniversary highlights the contributions of customers, government, regulators, the media and communities to the company’s growth over the past three decades.
Mr. Boadi said MTN Ghana had evolved from a telecommunications provider into a digital platform supporting communication, business development and financial inclusion.
He acknowledged that the company had faced challenges in extending its network to all communities but said feedback from customers had helped drive improvements in service delivery.
He stressed that the company’s focus went beyond connectivity to ensuring that Ghanaians could use digital technology to improve their livelihoods and access economic opportunities.

He said the company would continue investing in cybersecurity and data protection to safeguard customers’ funds and personal information as digital financial transactions expanded.
He also urged customers to protect their PINs, passwords and other personal details, emphasising that cybersecurity required shared responsibility between service providers and users.
Mr. Boadi further highlighted the company’s commitment to ethical business practices, citing its Ethics Week activities, which promoted integrity, accountability, fraud prevention and responsible conduct among employees.
MTN Ghana also recorded strong financial results in the first half of 2026, with service revenue rising by 32.3 per cent to GH¢15 billion.

Mr. Boadi said the company’s financial performance provided the foundation for continued investment in infrastructure, job creation, support for local businesses and social intervention programmes.
He explained that a sustainable business was necessary to maintain network investments and fund initiatives that contribute to national development.
Beyond its core telecommunications business, MTN Ghana is investing in education, digital innovation and youth development through the MTN Ghana Foundation.
Mr. Boadi disclosed that the Foundation awarded 500 scholarships to young Ghanaians this year, with the package covering tuition, accommodation, stipends and laptops.
He said the intervention was intended to support students in pursuing their education and achieving their ambitions.
The company is also using its MTN Skills Academy to equip more than 100,000 young people with digital literacy, financial skills and career readiness to prepare them for opportunities in the digital economy.
Other initiatives include DigiFest 2026, which brings together young people, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and technology partners to develop skills and solutions for Ghana’s digital future.
MTN Ghana has also strengthened partnerships with the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to promote digital innovation and skills development.
Through initiatives such as the Tɛkyerɛma Pa Hackathon and the MTN Game Developer Contest 2026, students and aspiring developers have opportunities to showcase their ideas, develop practical skills and access mentorship.
Mr. Boadi further announced changes to the Heroes of Change programme, including an increase in the overall winner’s prize from GH¢100,000 to GH¢400,000.
The programme has also introduced new award categories recognising sustainability and digital innovation, alongside recognition for nominators who bring deserving individuals to the programme’s attention.
Mr. Boadi said MTN Ghana’s sustainability strategy was anchored on four pillars: Doing for the Planet, Doing for People, Doing it Right and Doing for Growth.
He acknowledged that challenges involving access, affordability, digital literacy and relevant skills remained, requiring sustained collaboration with government, educational institutions, development partners and communities.
He said technology should serve as an equaliser and that efforts must continue to ensure that no community or individual was left behind in Ghana’s digital transformation.
As the company celebrates 30 years of operations in Ghana, Mr. Boadi expressed appreciation to the media, government, regulators, customers and communities for their contributions to its growth.
He said the stakeholder engagement was designed not only to provide updates on the company’s operations but also to listen to concerns, strengthen partnerships and improve accountability.
Mr. Boadi reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to investing in infrastructure, protecting customer trust and supporting initiatives that promote economic growth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
He described the trust built with customers and stakeholders over the past three decades as one of the company’s most significant achievements, adding that MTN Ghana would continue working to strengthen those relationships as it enters its next phase of growth.
