The National Communications Authority (NCA) has cleared three companies to advance to the next stage of Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing process.
The successful applicants are Scancom Plc, operator of MTN Ghana; Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited, operating as Telecel Ghana; and Goal Telecommunications Ltd.
Their qualification follows the completion of the NCA’s assessment of applications submitted for spectrum licences in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz and 3GHz bands.
According to the regulator, four companies submitted applications by the 5 p.m. deadline on August 27, 2026. The applications were subsequently subjected to an eligibility review and technical qualification assessment.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, the NCA announced that Infrava Ltd was the only applicant that failed to meet the requirements to proceed.
“All Applicants have been duly informed of the Authority’s determination in respect of their applications, with reasons provided where applicable,” the NCA said.
With the qualification stage now completed, the three successful applicants will move to Stage 3 of the selection process.
The NCA said the Envelope B submission of Infrava Ltd, which did not qualify, would not be opened.
The regulator added that the qualified applicants would be separately informed of the date, time and venue for the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers.
The next stage will therefore determine how the available spectrum in the designated bands is allocated among the qualified applicants, as Ghana moves forward with the rollout and expansion of advanced mobile communications services.
