MTN is urging all customers to remain vigilant following a security breach that may have impacted approximately 5,700 MTN Ghana users.
The telecommunications giant has advised its customers to adopt key security measures, including updating mobile and banking apps, using strong passwords, and avoiding suspicious links.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 28, MTN Group confirmed that the breach involved the unauthorized access of personal information belonging to some MTN Ghana customers. The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has initiated an investigation into the potential cybersecurity incident.
MTN assured the public that it is working closely with cybersecurity experts and following established protocols to investigate the breach and mitigate any further risks. Affected customers will be contacted directly as part of the ongoing investigation.
“MTN assures its customers that the privacy of information is our top priority, and we remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of our systems and the trust placed in us by our customers and other stakeholders,” the statement read.
As part of its efforts to protect customers, MTN has issued a series of recommendations, including placing fraud alerts on credit reports, ensuring mobile apps are up-to-date, and being cautious with personal information. The company stressed the importance of not sharing sensitive details such as PINs or OTPs when asked via unsolicited messages or calls.
