Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has revealed his top priorities for the economy during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
With inflation hovering at 28.3%, Forson vowed to tackle the root cause, primarily food inflation.
“I will allocate resources in consultation with cabinet to implement the government’s agricultural policy to make food cheaper,” he promised.
Forson also reaffirmed his commitment to abolishing the E-Levy as his first action, stating, “My commitment has not changed; it must be abolished and will be abolished immediately.”
In addition, he outlined a plan to reduce inflation to 8% plus or minus 2, emphasizing the need for coordinated fiscal and monetary efforts to stabilize the cedi.
“BoG alone cannot anchor the Ghana cedi. We need coordinated efforts to save reserves and protect the cedi,” Forson explained.
