Officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly has caused the arrest of the Chief of Nahinso, Nana Addo Boaman, for undertaking road works without official permission.
The Chief, who was arrested and later granted bail over the weekend, claimed he took the initiative due to the authorities’ failure to address the poor road conditions, which have caused persistent flooding despite numerous appeals from motorists and residents.
The neglected road construction, abandoned after the completion of drainage works, has exacerbated the situation, leaving the community in distress.
For years, residents and motorists in Nahinso, a community that borders the Bosomtwi District and Oforikrom Municipality, have decried the dangerous road conditions.
Pits created by sand-winning activities pose major threats to road users, often leading to flooding and impeding movement.
Frustrated by the inaction of local authorities, Nana Boaman began filling the pits and repairing the road.
However, officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly halted his efforts, citing the lack of proper permissions.
Despite his arrest, Nana Boaman has declared his determination to continue addressing the road issues plaguing his community.
