The National Peace Council (NPC) has called for an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to address disputes surrounding the collation of election results for three Eastern Region constituencies—Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa—currently ongoing at the Tesano Police Training School in Accra.
The collation process has been fraught with delays and controversy, following its relocation from the Eastern Regional level to the national level due to disruptions, destruction, and incidents of arson at initial collation centers.
The Electoral Commission (EC) initiated the Tesano collation exercise to ensure security and order.
Amid rising political tensions, the NPC emphasized that the collation process was solely the EC’s decision and not influenced by political parties or the Ghana Police Service. The Council urged political representatives to prioritize peace and address grievances through legal channels, warning that the stakes for national safety and stability are high.
The NPC also praised the media for its commitment to transparent reporting during the elections, calling for continued efforts to keep the public accurately informed.
