Political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he describes as complacency in Parliament.
Speaking to ABC News GH, he expressed concerns over the absence of NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) during crucial deliberations, warning that such actions could weaken their influence.
“They are taking their majority for granted,” he asserted, emphasizing the need for the party to be more disciplined in managing its parliamentary conductions.
Dr. Asante Otchere particularly called out the Majority Chief Whip, urging him to enforce strict attendance among MPs.
“The Majority Chief Whip is supposed to grant the whip,” he advised, stressing that maintaining a strong parliamentary presence is essential for effective governance.
His comment comes on the back of the Minority caucus in Parliament criticizing the Majority caucus for failing to attend Friday’s parliamentary proceedings in significant numbers.
This follows concerns raised by the Minority over the lack of quorum, as the required minimum of 91 Members of Parliament was not met for parliamentary business on March 7, 2025.
Due to the lack of quorum, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor suspended the House.
In response, Kwadaso MP, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, expressed his concerns about the situation while speaking to journalists.
